August 26th, 2000 - September issue

Hello Dear Readers!

Kids are heading back to school! Some of you are suffering the pangs of having your babies go for the first time. Some of you are glad to get your days back. And some of you are probably just glad to be done with the back-to-school shopping rush! This month, I'm encouraging you to take advantage of the time that you've regained to catch up on some decorating and organizing. Read on...

I've added a few more pages to the site. Specifically, I've split the Pillows page into several pages with different types of pillows and lots more photo examples. I hope this helps with your planning. I also hope you all enjoy the new site!

I have some other news, too... We're going to have another baby! This is number three... my daughter is 3 1/2 and my son is almost 2... this one will be due at the beginning of April. My husband and Kayla are looking forward to it (Ryan doesn't understand, yet.) And don't worry, this shouldn't affect the business, since I plan on having some help by then. The only interruption should be a delay in e-mail response for a few days when he/she decides it's time to come. :-)

      On with the regular e-zine!

Congratulations go to Judy of Kentucky! She was the lucky winner in the free drawing among the July subscribers! The prize was a free Triple Wreath Set with 4" wreaths! She asked for one in blue or pink, and I found the most beautiful soft, dusky blue flowers to use. And instead of the regular single ribbon, I doubled two thinner ribbons for a more delicate look.
This month's prize will also be a Triple Wreath Set with 4" wreaths. The winner will get to choose colors and style. So forward this to your friends, or send them by the site to subscribe so they get their chance to win! All those subscribed at the end of the month are automatically entered. For more information on the drawing, see my drawing page.

Also, if you want to win the drawing, please make sure you check your e-mail soon after the first of the month! The winner has only 10 business days to reply and claim their prize. The first winner drawn this month never responded - even after 3 e-mails, none of which came back as undeliverable. I finally had to choose an alternate winner. So please check!

1. THIS MONTH'S SUBSCRIBER'S SPECIAL
      - Bedding Coordinates

The entire Bedding Coordinates department is on sale this month. This is kind-of a follow-up to my site renovation sale on Window Treatments last month. So, through September 30th, all ordered Bedding Coordinates will be 10% off! I'm going to throw in a bonus, too... If you order any fabric accessories to coordinate with your bedding... they, too will be 10% off! So now is the time to do that Bedroom Redecorating you've been putting off! (Note: the 10% off only applies to the part that I charge - the prices listed on the web, for example. If you request that I find and purchase your fabric for you, I will get the best price I can, but I cannot take 10% off that portion of your cost. I'm sure you understand.)

(As noted before: the 10% off only applies to the part that I charge - the prices listed on the web, for example. If you request that I find and purchase your fabric for you, I will get the best price I can, but I cannot take 10% off that portion of your cost. I'm sure you understand.)

2. TIPS & TRICKS
      - Organizational Tips!

Here's a couple organizational tips for three common problem areas in the home.

Top of Closet Storage - Get some clear plastic bins, about 8-12" high. This height is right for stacking two high across the top of your closet. It's much easier to get what you want, if you can see into the bins while they're up there, and if you only have to get down one or two at a time.

Paperwork - Stop and think what type of papers it usually is that starts the pile-up... is it mail, bill stubs, notes, etc. Once you get caught up, make a place to put these things BEFORE you file them away. Instead of setting them down to 'file later', put them in your new organizer, and your desk or counter top will stay neat, longer!

Little junk - You know all those little odds and ends that come out of your pockets and your purse? You always end up setting them down on the counter or table because they don't really have a place, right? Well, get a little basket or other pretty container to drop them in! You'll know when to find them. And, if you haven't needed them or done anything with them after several weeks, you know you can throw them out!

Do you have a tip or trick that you'd like to share with us? Write! We'd love to hear!

3. FEATURE ARTICLE - Guest Article
      - "The Gift of Sight"             by Vickie Nance

Have you ever taken the time to gaze into a store's display window? What captivated you? Did the display lure you into the store? Weren't you just a little curious about what that store had to offer? Beauty is a magnet. It attracts our attentions. It causes us to slow down from life's busy pace a feel the serenity it has to offer.

We've been given a very special gift - the gift of sight. We use our sight to take in the life around us. Did you know that two thirds of the mind's conscious attention and two thirds of the information we store in our brains is dedicated to what we see with our eyes? So the question is: what do you see when you enter your home?

It's impossible to have beauty without organization. Take some time to eliminate the clutter that keeps your home from being beautiful. This isn't to say that our homes must be showcase quality. Many of us have homes that we aren't especially thrilled with. But there are things we can do to make our homes more beautiful, and beautiful simply means that which pleases the eye.

There are so many things we can do with our houses to create beautiful homes. Take a few minutes to clean the outside of your windows so that you have a clear view of the world around you. Put a large basket outside your front door and plant an ivy geranium in it. Hang a mirror in your bedroom and arrange a candle so that it's glow reflects back to you and creates a romantic ambiance. If you can't afford wallpaper, paint your walls in colors that you love. Use soft colors like cream or yellow for a light and airy feeling or deeper colors like wine or hunter green for a warm, cozy atmosphere. Take pleasure in the beauty your house has to offer.

I recently had the opportunity to do some redecorating in a friend's house. We removed everything from the walls in her living room and dining room and started over. I arranged and rearranged what she had and placed them where I felt they would be enjoyed the most. She only added one new item: a rose swag she had purchased previously from Floral Seasons. I combined some things and took others apart. A few items remained and those she was happy to pack away. The result was simply amazing! By redecorating two rooms, her entire house took on a new personality. She thanked me before I left, but soon after I arrived home, she called to say how much of a difference the redecorating made for her. She told me was so excited about the "new look" and just loved being in those two rooms.

I've learned from her experience and others that there's power in decorating. It doesn't matter how cheap or expensive, how old or new. As long as it has meaning for you and your family, it's beautiful. Allow its power to draw you in. Come home to a house that welcomes you!

4. CHALLENGE OF THE MONTH
      - Organize it!

This month, I'd like to challenge you to be inspired by the guest article, take advantage of the tips and tricks, and take that first step to organize what needs organized! Where in your home, is there a constant pile of clutter... is it the computer desk... the kitchen... the top of your dresser... the closet? Brainstorm for what you'll need to KEEP in organized in the future. Then set aside a day to go through it all and organize it so your not afraid of it anymore! You can do it!

Remember, if your decorating isn't fun, it isn't worth it! So enjoy it!
