Hello Dear Readers!
How is your decorating going this year? Judging
from the rapid increase in business, a lot of you are
really getting things done! Thank you for all your
referrals and business.
I've got a great "Tip & Trick" this month for all
canopy bed lovers. And the article is an old one of mine,
that should be new to 95% of you... It's proved to be
popular among other e-zine publishers, so I hope those of
you who haven't yet read it, enjoy it and are helped by it!
Congratulations go to Judi of Wyoming! She was
the lucky prize winner among the January subscribers. She
received a free pair of small crochet boxes. She chose to
have hers decorated in a green hydrangeas.
This month's prize will be a free Small Wreath
Set! This beautiful accent consists of three small wreaths
hung one above the other on a bow-tied ribbon. The winner
will get to choose the color and style of the flowers, and
I'll design their very own unique and beautiful little
accents. So forward this to your friends, or send them by
the site to subscribe so they get their chance to win! All
those subscribed at the end of the month are automatically
entered. For more information on the drawing, see my
drawing page.

2. Tips & Tricks
- Make a Canopy for your Bed!
How about adding the look of a canopy
to you bed? This is one of the easiest and most
attractive ways of doing this that I've seen yet!
It's really nothing more than two long yardages
of fabric, and a few towel rings. And it looks
great! Here's the link with instructions and
photos to guide you.
And here's a few variations from me that came to
mind... (These won't make any sense if you don't go look at
the web page.)
1) Use two more of the same rings at the top of the bed,
instead of the bars. This will give you wall space to hang
a large print or other wall accessory over your bed.
2) For a misty, dreamy, beach-house look, use tulle at it's
full width (instead of cutting it in half) or even two
widths. Tulle is the stuff that bridal veils are made of
and it is VERY inexpensive... like 1.19/yard. You won't
have to hem any edges either!
3) If you use four rings, instead of two rings and two
bars, then you can also duplicate the same drapes across
the head and foot of the bed... so you'd have a drape above
each side of the bed, and twice the fabric hanging down.
4) For a very elegant and luxurious look, you could combine
cording and large tassels with the fabric.
Have fun!

3. FEATURE ARTICLE
- Make Your Decorating Personal
What's unique about your decorating? What's
different between your home and everyone else's? I mean, if
you and someone else hired the same professional decorator,
and he or she decorated both of your homes the same way,
would you both like it? Probably not! We all want our home
to be unique - an expression of ourselves and our families.
How do we get it?
The first answer that comes to mind is that you
both have different things in your homes - different
photos, different clocks, different accessories, etc. But
actually, that isn't it. You both COULD have those same
things if you wanted, couldn't you? The difference is that
you don't - each of you have chosen to bring different
items into your home and display them in different ways.
It's all in the accessories.
Now this is kind of obvious when you think about
it, but the principle is what I want to talk about - the
principle that our decorating is indeed an expression of
ourselves. And the more involved we are in our decorating,
the more unique it will be!
Let's take it down to a specific example - like
the bed linens and pillows on your bed. You know that, if
you bought a ready-made bed set, someone else, somewhere,
has the same one. Actually hundreds, maybe thousands, of
people have the same one. So what's to make it uniquely
yours? The answer is in how you combine what you have, and
what you added that didn't come with that ready-made set!
So you bought a comforter, bedskirt, pillow shams, and
curtains that all coordinate. Do they have sheets in the
same print? Don't buy them! Instead go find a solid,
stripe, or plaid that goes well, and use them! Did you get
some of the coordinating throw pillows? Find another
somewhere else... something beautiful and different to
serve as the focal point of your bed. Something that you
just fall in love with the moment you see it. Or have
something made that's unique. That's the second big
advantage to custom-made. The first is that you get exactly
what you want. The second is that nobody else has one just
like it.
Here's what I suggest you do to make your
decorating personal... a unique reflection of the unique
you. Go window-shopping at least once a month. Mind you, I
said WINDOW-SHOPPING! This is the relaxed,
I-have-plenty-of-time-and-it-doesn't-matter-if-I-don't-find-anything
kind of shopping that is an enjoyable morning, afternoon,
or evening off. We all need these breaks anyway! You're
more likely to find that something special taking your
time, then you are just keeping your eyes open while you
rush about your weekly errands. (Although we can happen
across wonderful finds that way sometimes too!) When you're
window-shopping, you're not searching for just one specific
thing - you're looking at everything. You're looking for
something to jump out at you - something that feels like it
was made just for you. When you find something, think back
to your home. What room would it fit in? If it's a pillow,
would it go with your bed set? Or would two of them look
nice on the sofa? If it's a picture, which room's decor
does it go with. No matter what, anything you find will
probably fit somewhere. If you decorate your home with the
style and colors you love, then any items you find will
probably be in those same colors and style.
So, go on and have fun! Keep your eyes open! You
never know what you may find. And have fun!

4. CHALLENGE OF THE MONTH
- Enjoy the Weather!
March is a month that many people struggle to
enjoy. Most of you live in areas that are still cold and
damp, and you're probably looking forward to spring, and
really getting tired of the winter. My challenge to you is
heartfelt... Enjoy it! Down here in Florida, it's over 80
degrees and humid... and just too hot for February and
March! I know that many of you think that you would enjoy
it, and perhaps you would, but the hard thing about
actually living here, is that it's not just hot now... you
know that it's going to stay this hot for another 8-10
months. It's a challenge for ME to enjoy MY weather! So
be patient for spring, enjoy the snow and rain if you're
getting it (we're into our second year of drought and are
under severe water restrictions), and look for things to
enjoy this month... don't wish it away!

Remember, if your decorating isn't fun, it isn't worth it!
So enjoy it!
