Hello Dear Readers!

First I must apologize for this issue being a little late. My family got that flu bug that was going around over Thanksgiving week, so I got a little behind. Kids demand a LOT of attention when they're sick... and they don't let you get much sleep! Wouldn't trade motherhood for the world, though. *smile*

And then Saturday I tried to get on here and get this thing done, but whole huge sections of the Internet were down! Did you notice? MSNBC was full of broken links and half pages, Netscape was down, and even Yahoo didn't work! I checked the Internet traffic report site and there were at least 7 major cities in the US... DC, LA, Chicago, etc... that had traffic almost at a standstill. So I couldn't do much.

Well I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I hope you took some time to remember all that we have to be grateful for... Truly a lot this year. Let's remember throughout the whole holiday season, and not allow ourselves to become commercialized. May God bless you all.

On to the fun stuff!

2. Tips & Tricks
     - Choosing the Perfect Christmas Tree

Here are some tips for choosing the best live tree for your home.

- Fuller is not necessarily better. Yes, you don't want a thin three you can see through, but neither do you want one so thick that you CAN'T see through it! Somewhere in the middle is best. Think about it... you're buying this tree to decorate it... ie: put things on it and in it that you want to SEE. You want your tree to have lots of small holes to hang ornaments in, and you want your lights to shine from within. We once got a tree so beautifully thick that we couldn't hang the ornaments anywhere! They just laid on the outside of tree looking like they didn't belong. Or those thick branches would shove them right off the end of their branch so they'd roll right down the side of the tree. I think we ended up cutting small branches out, just to make room for them!

- If your tree will be going in a corner or against the wall, then go for one with a big hole in the back and bargain for a better price.

- Don't forget to check the top. If you'll be putting an angel or star on top, then you'll need a good strong lead branch that comes out the top, not one that curves up from the side, or five thin branches.

- Remember that your tree stand will add 4-6" in height, BUT you may need to cut off several lower branches to fit the trunk into the stand.

- Douglas or Fraser Firs usually ARE worth the extra money for several reasons. First, they don't shed many needles at all, compared to those inexpensive pines! Second, they don't prick your arms raw as you move them, set them up, and decorate them. Third, they smell just heavenly, and fourth, they really look terrific decorated.. if looks are important to you, then this is worth a lot. Besides... the extra cost usually isn't more than what you'd spend on pizza. And if you'll spend an extra $25 to save yourself the time and trouble to cook one meal, then why not spend an extra $25 to save yourself weeks of headaches with pine needled covered floors and pricked arms?

     Have fun!

3. FEATURE ARTICLE
     - Decorating for Christmas with Ribbon

Go to any craft or fabric store before the holidays and you'll see bins and boxes overflowing with spools of holiday ribbon. Go find some that fit your holiday decorating scheme, and have fun with them! Here's some ideas to get your started.

Tie a bow around your candlesticks to give them an instant holiday touch.

Wrap some 3" wide ribbon loosely around your banister. Just tie the ends off in a loose, graceful knot or bow.

Does your tree need more decorations? Put ribbon on it! Here's how: - - Have 15-20 yards of 1 1/2 or 2" wide wire-edged ribbon and 5 or 6 pins available to use. (Sometimes there are already some pins in the spool of ribbon.) - - Pull about 12" off the end of the first spool of ribbon and lightly knot it around a branch in the top and back of the tree. - - To decorate, stick a finger from your left hand into that hole in the center of the spool so the ribbon is like the tire on a wheel and axle. Move that finger in a slight circular motion as you move to the left, so the ribbon slowly falls off the spool as you move. It will come off, but stay curled perfectly! Use your right hand to guide the ribbon in place, resting it on branches. Make it wind down around the tree. - - When you come to the end of that spool, grab the next and pin the ends together. Stick your finger in that spool (make sure it will unwind the same way), and continue around the tree!

Tie simple bows with narrow wire-edge gold or silver ribbon around your napkins for table elegance.

A bow on the back of each chair at the table could be an elegant touch.

Just look around... if there are any areas of your home that look forlorn and forgotten for the holidays, try taking a spool of ribbon and playing around with it to see what you can think of!

One last note for good measure... these ribbon spools are often marked down to clearance prices after Christmas is over, so if you think you might want more next year, go back and stock up!

     Have fun!

4. E-ZINE OF THE MONTH
     - Enchanted Elegance News

Here's a great little ezine that distributes articles and tips on health and beauty care, as well as news of sales from Enchanted Elegance (which, by the way, is a great source for Bath and Body Products). It only goes out several times each month, so your inbox won't be filled up. Go ahead and subscribe and try it for a few months!

(PS. EnchantedElegance.com is running a sale right now, too... in case some candles, music, or bath and body products would fit someone on your gift list.)

5. CHALLENGE OF THE MONTH
     - Tell Them!

My challenge is simple, but perfect for the holidays. You may not need this challenge, but for even the few of you who might, it's worth giving you this challenge: Tell your loved ones you love them! If you come from an undemonstrative family, and find it difficult, then perhaps it would be easier to write it in a card or letter. And for those of you who do tell your family that you love them, I challenge you to go one step further and tell them why this holiday season. What better time could there be, than now?

Remember, if your decorating isn't fun, it isn't worth it. So enjoy it!
