Hello Dear Readers!

Yes, I'm doing it... from now on this ezine will be published twice/month.  The response was overwhelmingly "YES, two issues!" in the survey last month.  So that's twice the amount of decorating information you get FREE every month!

The response was much more mixed on the text-only or HTML, though.  I'm not ready to switch to HTML right now, nor am I ready to publish it both ways.  I think I will start providing a link to an online HTML version, with the text version.  I can start doing this in the next few months, I'm sure.  That way those who want it in text in their inbox will still get it, but those of you who like a little more color and flare can follow the link to read it online. That's the best that I'll be able to do, for a while, and I hope that it works for most of you.

This month's issue is full of budget decorating ideas and information, and I hope it helps a lot of you with your home projects. (*smile*)  But first...

...I have a quick request for all of you... can you please make a mental note to update your subscription when you switch email addresses?  As many of you are aware, Yahoo, Hotmail, Email.com and many other large email companies are putting very small storage limits on their users.  This is affecting me greatly... I am loosing almost 1,000 subscribers every month now, due to people email boxes being so full that their emails are bouncing!  So instead of this newsletter growing by 1,000/month, I'm barely breaking even.   So all I ask, is that when you get tired of your always-full storage quota and upgrade (yes, free email is becoming a thing of the past), or switch to a new email address, please update me so I can change your subscription, or re-activate the email account you already have.  Thank you!

And as always, please check out our sponsors!

1. Tips & Tricks
     - Designer Wall Art with Budget Supplies

Here's a great, fun way to achieve the look of designer wall-art, at budget prices!  All you need are small pieces of fabric that match your decor, cheap frames, paint, and cardboard.

Frames can be gotten at garage sales very inexpensively.  For this project, all they need to be is intact, and a size and shape you like.  Keep an eye out for fabric you like (even if it's made into clothing), while you're garage sale-ing.  If you don't find what you like there, then check the remnant bins of fabric stores, or eBay.

Now find some paint you like, so you can give those frames a fresh look!  White and ivory are always classic looks, but check out all the faux finish paints that you can get in craft stores now.  You can turn that 25 cent frame into a gold-leaf masterpiece, an antique crackle-finish heirloom, or any other number of a dozen finishes that are easy to do.

Now to use that fabric!  You can use it two ways, depending on whether you have anything else you'd like to frame.  Cut the cardboard to the size of the frame.  Now you can either wrap the entire piece of cardboard in the fabric and frame it, or you can cut out the center to frame a photo, calendar picture, or other image.  You can even do both!   Let's say you're decorating a room in roses, and you found two rose fabrics - one with large individual roses, and another with a small all-over rose print.  Paint the frame an antique gold color.  Cut the cardboard into a mat, and center it over one of the large roses.  Then cover it in a layer of batting, and then the small rose fabric.

Have fun and use your imagination!

3. FEATURE ARTICLE
     - Managing Your Small Space
         by Maria Palma - studio747@yahoo.com

Living in a small space can be quite a challenge!  If you're an  artist like me who is constantly creating something, the stuff that  has accumulated can make you feel quite claustrophobic.  Over the  course of a year I've finally learned how to manage my space and all  my stuff!

The first thing to do is to let go of unnecessary items.  If there is  something in storage that you haven't used in six months to a year,  you probably won't use it again.  Also, a good place to check is your  closet.  Go through each piece of clothing and if you haven't worn it  in the past year, it's time to get rid of it.  The best thing to do  is to donate the goods to your local charity.  There are plenty of  unfortunate people out there who would treasure what you consider  trash!

Now it's time to tackle the stuff that you do have.  When living in a  small space, it's all about storage.  Consider multi-function  furniture such as chests and ottomans that are useful for storage of  blankets and clothes and can be used as tables or seats.  A futon can  serve as a couch during the day and a bed at night.  With the things  that you do have, it's best to try and store as much as possible as  to make the room appear uncluttered.  Less is definitely more in the  case of small space living.  On the same note, bigger is also  better.  Small furniture does not make the room appear bigger.   Rather, larger, bolder pieces of furniture draw the eye to them  creating the illusion of a bigger room.

Create a wall of shelving to put books, magazines, and knick knacks.   Grouping most of your belongings in one place rather than scattered  all around the room frees up space to move around.  Place baskets on  the shelves for stray items and papers.  Baskets can also be used to  hold magazines and placed next to the couch or a chair.

Light is important in a small room.  Try hanging a big mirror  opposite the window(s) to reflect light into the room.  Also, try to  keep the fabrics used in the room a light color.  In my studio I use  a beige colored slipcover over my futon which I then cover with  different colored pillows.  Remember that dark colors absorb light  and light colors reflect light.

You can divide space in a room by using screens or bookcases.   Screens or bookshelves can be inexpensively made by purchasing wood  at your local hardware or home store.  They can be covered with  fabric or painted to add a personal touch.  Area rugs are also a good  way to create division in a room.

With a little creativity you can make living in a small space as  comfortable as living in a castle!
