3. FEATURE ARTICLE
     - Decorating for Christmas with Ribbon

Go to any craft or fabric store before the holidays and you'll see bins and boxes overflowing with spools of holiday ribbon. Go find some that fit your holiday decorating scheme, and have fun with them! Here's some ideas to get your started.

1. Tie a bow around your candlesticks to give them an instant holiday touch.

2. Wrap some 3" wide ribbon loosely around your banister. Just tie the ends off in a loose, graceful knot or bow.

3. Does your tree need more decorations? Put ribbon on it! Here's how:
- - Have 15-20 yards of 1 1/2 or 2" wide wire-edged ribbon and 5 or 6 pins available to use. (Sometimes there are already some pins in the spool of ribbon.)
- - Pull about 12" off the end of the first spool of ribbon and lightly knot it around a branch in the top and back of the tree.
- - To decorate, stick a finger from your left hand into that hole in the center of the spool so the ribbon is like the tire on a wheel and axle. Move that finger in a slight circular motion as you move to the left, so the ribbon slowly falls off the spool as you move. It will come off, but stay curled perfectly! Use your right hand to guide the ribbon in place, resting it on branches. Make it wind down around the tree.
- - When you come to the end of that spool, grab the next and pin the ends together. Stick your finger in that spool (make sure it will unwind the same way), and continue around the tree!

4. Tie simple bows with narrow wire-edge gold or silver ribbon around your napkins for table elegance.

5. A bow on the back of each chair at the table could be an elegant touch.

Just look around... if there are any areas of your home that look forlorn and forgotten for the holidays, try taking a spool of ribbon and playing around with it to see what you can think of!

One last note for good measure... these ribbon spools are often marked down to clearance prices after Christmas is over, so if you think you might want more next year, go back and stock up!

Have fun!
