5 Hidden Storage Tricks

by Kathleen M. Peters, www.KatieDidDesign.com

There are a number of great places to hide storage items away. Here are 5 storage tricks that you may be able to use in your home.

1) Those inexpensive little wooden decorator tables (that you cover with a 70" tableskirt) are a wonderful place to hide things away. Especially items that you want to be easily accessible but still want out of view, like rollerblades, cross-stitch projects, etc. Whether store-bought or custom-made, you can get a table cover to go with any decorating style, and then hide your things underneath! They even make them now with small shelves underneath, in case you don't want to put your stow-a-ways in boxes.

2) Angle your bed out from the corner of the room. You'll instantly have storage room back behind the headboard, and you'll be surprised at how much more wall space you'll have on either side of the bed! The only drawback to this idea is that it's kind of hard to get to your things when they're back there. But it can still be a great place for items like Christmas decorations.

3) Place one of those decorative folding-panel screens strategically in the corner of a room. You'll instantly have 'hidden' space behind it. And they add a beautiful touch to a room if you position them right.

4) Use decorative hatboxes and photo storage boxes. These are great for storing all sorts of small things that you want to hold onto or keep available. They're also a great alternative to that 'junk drawer' that we don't seem to be able to get rid of!

5) Do you hold on to leftover Christmas wrapping paper from year to year? A great hidden place to store it (or other flat items) is underneath the bottom drawers of your dressers! Just pull the bottom drawers all the way out, lay your wrapping paper down on the floor under the drawer tracks, and put your drawers back in! Just don't forget where you put them when you need them next year!
