How to Make Easy, Beautiful Placemats
by Kathleen M. Peters, www.KatieDidDesign.com
Here's a quick and easy no-sew project to add a festive colorful touch to your breakfast table, picnic table, or TV trays. You can buy iron-on laminate "by-the-yard" at fabric stores. Here's how you do it:
1) Choose your fabric... it could be something that coordinates with your decor, something neutral to go with everything, or you could choose seasonal fabric.
2) Cut a 12" by 16" rectangle from the fabric for each place mat... two if you want them to be reversible. You can use straight scissors, pinking sheers, or some of the fancy cut scissors if you'd like.
2) Cut two 14" by 18" rectangles from the laminate for each place mat.
3) Follow the instructions for the laminate to place them together around the fabric and for ironing them together. You may need to trim the edges even after your laminate has cooled.
And that's really all you have to do! Imagine them with bright floral fabrics, French blue and white prints, cheerful plaids, bright solids, muted neutrals, ... anything! You could even pick a bunch of coordinating prints and mix and match!
Have fun!
